School Council

The School Council is the governing body of the school. It determines appropriate educational policies within the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) guidelines to promote the achievement of the school's goals and priorities. In addition the Council controls the school’s monies and resources.

Membership

In 2007 the members of the Council are:

Parent Members
Eight elected parent members; each member has a two year term, with four retiring each year.

  • Hugh Rogers (President) • Meredith Griffiths
  • David Grubits (Vice-President) • Petra Inkster
  • Andrea Nickels (Treasurer) • Rebecca Jurgens

DEECD Members
Four elected DEECD members; each member has a two year term, with two retiring each year.

  • Jess Fegan • Ian Murdoch
  • Mark Galletti • Marise de Quadros

Community Members
Two community members are co-opted by the Council. Traditionally one of these places is reserved for a representative of the Parents Club.

  • Helen Newman (Parents Club) • Jill Wilson

Principal and CEO

  • Alan Frost

Half the elected members of the Council retire each year, with elections being held in late February/early March each year. Parents are encouraged to become involved and anyone who is interested can discuss what is involved with either the Principal or President.

Meetings
The Council meets two or three times each term.  Meetings are usually held on a Tuesday at 7pm and are held in the staffroom.  Meetings are always publicised in the school’s weekly newsletter and the main agenda items are always listed in the newsletter before each meeting.  Parents are encouraged to come along and observe, and are always welcome to participate in the discussions.  Any important decisions are also reported in a newsletter soon after the meeting.

Sub-Committees
A lot of the detailed work of the Council is done through sub-committees.  In 2007 the main sub-committees are:

  • Finance & Governance
  • Curriculum
  • Buildings, Grounds & Maintenance
  • Communications

While the core membership of these sub-committees is drawn from the Council members, other parents and staff are welcome to join any of the sub-committees, especially if it deals with subjects that they are particularly interested in or have a specialist skill in. If you are interested, please contact Alan Frost.
